Innovative technology
Patented technology
At the heart of BioFert’s innovation is our patented thermophilic composting process, developed in the years following our founding in 1984. Patented internationally under Pacific Biofert NZ, this unique process uses heat-loving microbes and natural inputs to produce nutrient-rich, highly available soil and plant food.
It laid the groundwork for many of our original products and continues to be a key part of how we operate today. This sustainable, proven method transforms organic materials into high-performance fertilisers—supporting healthier soils, stronger plants, and more sustainable growing systems
Biophos
Traditional phosphate fertilisers are made by reacting milled phosphate rock with concentrated sulphuric acid. This creates a fertiliser containing phosphorus (P) in a water-soluble form that is readily taken up by plants. However, while a proportion is taken up by plants the remaining P is locked up in the soil where it becomes hard for plants to access over time and can lead to soil imbalance and long-term acidification. In the event of rainfall, traditional phosphate fertilisers are also prone to leaching and runoff causing eutrophication in our waterways. Rock phosphates are an alternative, however they are considerably less soluble.
Biophos was created to increase available P for plants while also improving long-term soil condition and decreasing run-off. The result is a biologically activated rock phosphate fertiliser, using locally cultured fungus that produces organic acid making the P content more readily available. Biophos also contributes significant amounts of calcium into the soil area and contains trace amounts of other organic nutrients.
Independent trials have shown Biophos matches production of single/triple superphosphate in the first year, and other studies have shown that after several years of regular use the cumulative effect of Biophos surpasses superphosphate in production of dry matter. Biophos delivers P more efficiently to the plant and reduces environmental losses.

Phyter
Phyter is a scientifically formulated biostimulant designed to enhance plant health, boost vigour and provide protection against various pathogens.
Available as both a seed treatment and a liquid foliar spray, it offers a versatile solution for supporting plant vitality at multiple stages.
The seed treatment contains beneficial microorganisms that promote early root development and strengthen natural plant defences—especially valuable in organic systems where protection against soilborne pathogens is critical.
The liquid spray, known as Amvista Phyter, combines seaweed extracts, phosphite, and humic acids to stimulate root growth, improve nutrient uptake, and help plants withstand environmental stress such as drought and fungal pressure
Combined with the Moana range, Phyter acts as a fertiliser adjuvant containing Trichoderma viride fungal spores and Mycelia. Beneficial soil fungus known for its rapid growth and the ability to outperform harmful fungi.
Phyter is introduced to the leaf or soil mixed with Moana products to act as food for the Trichoderma, boosting its population and suppressing fungi considered harmful to plants including: Botrytis, Armillaria, Fusarium, Phytopthora, Sclertinia, Pythium.
Soil fungi are widely recognised for their role in the organic breakdown of soil-bound nutrients in forms readily available to plants. Moana products and Phyter enhance this process.
Using Moana inoculated with Phyter can make gardening easier by giving plants a balanced 'meal' without needing to guess what nutrients they're missing.
Liquid technology
BioFert’s liquid technology is designed to improve the delivery and effectiveness of valuable nutrients, trace elements, amino acids, oils, natural bacteria, and enzymes. By converting these components into a liquid form, we enhance their solubility and bioavailability, making nutrients more readily available for plant uptake.
Liquid fertilisers are rapidly absorbed through both roots and foliage, offering a quicker nutrient response. These formulations can also be integrated into our powders, ensuring uniform distribution and reducing nutrient loss during application. This science-based approach supports efficient nutrient translocation and improved plant response.

Machinery automation
At BioFert, we are committed to staying at the forefront of agricultural manufacturing by continuously investing in machinery automation and smart technology. We actively look internationally for innovations that can help us improve the way we dry, press, blend, compost, bag, pack, and stack our products.
Every step of our production line is an opportunity to enhance product quality, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. If a technology can help us make a better product —or do it more effectively and sustainably—we see value in it.
